hot topic: faux fur/ no fur?

I enjoy perusing the racks at high end vintage stores as much as the next hipster, but you can never go wrong with shopping at the local Goodwill, or Salvation Army. So when I decided on a whim to pop into the Goodwill store a few weeks ago, my sight was set on a gorgeous chocolate fur chubby. There were numerous holes in the back and near the pockets- nothing some thread and needle time couldn't fix, so I figure I'd try and bring the price down. The asking price was forty. After pointing the imperfections to the cashier, she offered me a 20% discount.  I never expected to honestly pay anything that high at a thrift store anyways. The only thing about the coat was that it felt like real fur, even though there was no signage or label indicating so.

I know the topic of fur is quite controversial. I would never advocate buying new fur, and not just because PETA would follow me with a bucket of red paint! But what about vintage, recycled or used fur? How do you feel about the subject? What would you have done faced in a similar situation, enamored with fashion, and trying to save a buck?

  4. I think recycled/faux fur is actually okay w/ PETA. And I love fur this season. Every store I see is coming out w/ these amazing fur-trimmed clothes. UGH! I wish I could wear it without feeling too bearish and overdressed. I do live in California after all.

  6. I remember there was this huge debacle maybe a month or so ago, with certain brands labeling their "faux fur" items as such, only to have them be ACTUAL fur. I guess I'm on the fence when it comes to this one. I can't say that I'd immediately jump at the chance to wear real fur, but where does that leave leather? I'm all for leather, but at the same time against animal cruelty. Faux fur is ok with me, as long as it's really faux, haha.

    Stop by again soon!

  8. I don't mind faux fur, but I'm not really sure what I would do when faced with real fur. Although I guess if it's vintage, it's more of a waste not to wear it?

Not only are you gorgeous, you also have a really glamorous look to you!

  10. It's a beautiful coat and definitely a great find! Gosh, honestly, I'm torn about this subject. I'm not an advocate for real fur, either. Another blogger asked a similar question not too long ago when she accidentally purchased real fur at the thrift store and debated whether or not to keep it. I suppose if I were faced with this situation and feeling guilt, I would probably let it go. This is just me, but it's no fun wearing something I feel guilty about:) At the same time ur coat is recycled fur and not brand new:) Oh man, I dunno?! lol Whatever you decide, no judgement here:) The coat looks fab on you, anyway!

  17. I don't drop a leave a response, but after reading through a few of the comments on this page "hot topic: faux fur/ no fur?". I do have 2 questions for you if it's allright.

Is it simply me or does it give the impression like a few of
the responses look like they are coming from brain dead
visitors? :-P And, if you are writing on additional online sites,
I would like to keep up with you. Would you post a list of the complete urls of your social networking
