Style Challenge: Neons

Keeping in theme with Friday, and the always fun Style Challenge- I'm coming at you this week with a little neon action. Sometimes I'll be obvious about a trend, and sometimes I won't- I'm funny like that. I'll rock the hell out of a penguin printed blazer and skirt set, but other times I'll actually want to be subdued...whaaa?? Anyways, I wore this neon bit for brunch on Pride weekend- and just knew there would be neon aplenty, and boy there was! I kept the fun colors on my nails and up top in the most comfy tee there ever was by Michael Stars.

If I could I would do all my outfit pictures in Wine Country, the setting is epic, and the background is serene. And speaking of epic- I heart this vest- it works in all seasons. I frayed up the sleeves, because I wanted it to look a little beat up. It's easy to do too- I just took a pair of scissors to the edge and sort of snipped away.

In real life this outfit translates so much more beautiful than it does in photos- it's a bit stiff- well, as most photographs are. But when I wore this to dinner, I felt a bit like a ballerina- the top knot, the lilac colored top, pretty skirt. I generally enjoy a more structured fit, so I was a bit unsure of the overall flowi-ness of this look, but the pleather pleats on the skirt were a good contrast of structure, and tough girl meets chic, not too overly girly!

Style Challenge: Summer Hats

Hello ladies, It's been a long week but we finally made it to Friday!! Today I'm participating in my first ever Style Challenge, and it's a good one- summer hats. So here I am in the happiest place on earth-wine country- wearing the only hat I'll sport all summer. This pretty frock is one of my warm weather favorites, it's simple, and won't give me weird tan lines! Every time I wear it I feel like I'm channeling Carrie Bradshaw in the earlier SATC plot line- and that is one fierce lady to channel!

I often fantasize about zipping off on a whim to sun soaked wine country -or the French countryside- and enjoying a glass or two of of Cabernet, while taking in the beautiful scenery. Since I'm so close to Napa and Sonoma the first scenario is definitely a possibility. And this outfit would most likely be what I would be wearing- the modern romantic feel of the printed pencil skirt, a playful tee, and sun shielding hat all make these top picks in my book for a quick day-cation.
