denim mini skirt

{Zara coat, turtleneck and booties, Abercrombie & Fitch mini denim skirt, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli handbag, vintage bracelet and J. Crew bracelet, Gold & Citrus dagger earrings, Bare Minerals lipstick}

Hard to believe this denim mini skirt is over 8 years old, and has been hiding in my childhood room over at my parents house for half that time! I wore it religiously in college practically ever single week during the summer and then of course I moved a bit closer to San Francisco and summer weather-wear started to mean something completely different. Regardless, I'm glad it's been rediscovered and I plan to wear it summer sun or not. Have you re-discovered a new-to-you piece recently?

Still time to enter my Vilvum Silk giveaway, have you entered?

floral fixation

These gorgeous floral pants were designed and inspired by a picture I showed off on my Instagram over a year ago! Remember this post about my AG Jeans experience? Well, here I am officially showing them off on the blog- even though I've worn them many times. They are super comfortable, the skinny leg is perfection, and the print is so fun! I hosted a giveaway and one of my winners was none other than my local San Francisco girl Angie, from THYMWYA! She is rocking these bad boys over on her blog later today, so hop on over and check out how she styled them!!

my moments: summer in the city

While it's not your typical summer -generally no sun, and hardly a heat wave- San Francisco still has it's summer-like qualities. I'm not complaining though- I've already starting thinking about my navy and leather-rich pre-fall wardrobe

Here is a tiny glimpse into my summer so far...

-Walking to work and passing the Prada window everyday...dangerous
-My favorite kind of dinner. Summer salad with lots of veggies and cheese!
-This utility jacket has been providing me comfort from the cold.
-Super Duper ice cream. Just because it's Friday.
-New bling from the fab ladies at Rocks Paper Metal!

jeans and a sweatshirt

{Hollister utility jacket, H&M men's sweatshirt (good crop top version!), J. Crew denim, Rebecca Minkoff neon sandals, Lulu Frost x J. Crew necklace, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel, NYX 'Indie Flick' lipstick}

My favorite kind of outfits are ones that encompass many little special details- like neon sandals, blue polished tips, an electric pout, and lot's of bling- but, it has to be comfortable, and sassy! And it was the perfect excuse to wear jeans and a sweatshirt to work...

vilvum & a giveaway!

{Kirna Zabete tweed dress (another good one!), Zara moto jacket (mixed-media version), Vilvum Silk Scarf c/o, Zara booties, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli}

Looking good and feeling good always go hand-in-hand for me. I'm happiest when I'm in clothes that put a smile on my face and make me feel my best. This gorgeous silk scarf from Vilvum is no exception. In fact of all the quirky prints I've worn on this blog (like here or here)- these adorable little birds make up the cheekiest printed scarf I own!

Sure the scarf is great but the story behind it is even better. Vilvum, a US based company that sources rich silk from India to create their beautiful tunics, scarves, collars and totes- pledge a "Buy One & Share Love" stance for each purchase made from them. This means orphan children in India are provided a school uniform for each silk dress sold, children with special needs are granted school supplies and learning material for each scarf (like mine!) or collar sold, and for each purchase of a tote- medical supplies are covered. It's a lovely message, and really makes doing good while looking good so easy to do.

I've worn my scarf several times this week- since the weather has been very gloomy in San Francisco- and even with the off-beat print it works with everything! The kind, and kind-hearted folks over at Vilvum have graciously offered one Allergic to Vanilla Reader an item of their choosing. You can pick a dress, a scarf, a tote or even a collar. Details below...

black & white suit

{SheInside white blazer c/o, a.n.a. leatherette top (amazing option!). J. Crew factory cropped pants, Steve Madden brogues, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli, jewelry: TOKYObay, vintage, Ariel Gordon, Stella & Dot}

This summer suit was inspired by an image of a very chic woman dressed a bit like a man- white blazer over all black, with brogues. I knew instantly I had to try and emulate the look- it looked so cool together and I had all the elements in my closet! It came out a success, I was super comfortable at work, looked good and letting my hair down like this kept a good balance of feminine and masculine. What's your take on women in menswear? Check out the below article on a few key pieces every woman's wardrobe should have...

Classic Looks No Wardrobe Should Be Without

When it comes to fashion there is no right and wrong, and what you wear is an expression of your personality and style. A good collection of clothes is one you have gathered over the years made up of things that you love and represent parts of your personality. If you follow fashion the latest trends will be evident in your wardrobe and style will be a part of who you are as a person.

No matter what you’re into and what other clothes you have in your wardrobe, there are a few staples that no woman should be without. These items are the meat and potatoes of the fashion world and will get you out of innumerate fashion dilemmas. You can find the best of basics, and so much more, in the range of womens clothing at George, all at great value prices.

Jeans and Tee
There is a reason that smart jeans and a plain white t-shirt are the clothes of choice for models at casting calls. This is probably the simplest of all outfits, but this means it shows off natural beauty wonderfully and demonstrates your figure without over embellishment. You can wear this outfit with heeled court shoes, winter boots, ballet flats, or even just with trainers. It can also be dressed up or down with accessories to great effect and is the fall back outfit of choice - great for shopping or a relaxed weekend.

Little Black Dress
Three words that every woman knows and loves are: Little. Black. Dress. The dress that is there when you have nothing to wear, the one that can be adapted to fit any dress code and any occasion at a moments notice, this is the dress you simply cannot live without. Find one that flatters your figure, and that you feel fabulous in, and you will come to rely on this item whenever you utter the words, “I have nothing to wear”.

Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses can be worn in spring, summer and autumn, dressed up or down to suit the occasion and always with an effortlessly elegant result. Elongate your body and appear taller and slimmer in this flattering and beautiful style. Whether you go for a plain dress and style it with accessories, or follow this year’s trend and buy a maxi from George at Asda in a bright a bold print, you can wear this look anywhere, from the beach to a wedding.

Smart Suit
A sharp looking suit is not just for men. Women need a good smart outfit to wear to interviews, business meetings and formal occasions. Make it a little more feminine by teaming a pencil skirt with a blouse and suit jacket rather than opting for an androgynous looking traditional suit.

There you have it. The key items every woman should have in her wardrobe. Collect accessories that represent your personality and add in items of clothing that you love to customize the basic arsenal of clothing. Grow your own collection around this core selection, but rest safe in the knowledge that you will always have something to wear, in every situation.

ripped denim

{VS Pink blazer, Madewell chambray, Zara denim, ASOS bowtie, Zara boots, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel, arm candy: Ariel Gordon, Stella & Dot, TOKYObay}

These ripped jeans were part of my Zara sale splurge, and makes this muddled-up-menswear look that much better.

retro {fit}

{J. Crew sweater, eShakti skirt c/o (another gorgeous one here), J. Crew Valentina pumps, J. Crew x Lulu Frost necklace (have you seen this one?!), 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli satchel (drooling over this mini for fall, lipstick: Milani Flamingo Pose)}

You guys, this look was so fun to wear! The high-waist full skirt, the tucked-in-whimsical-sweater and a pink pout, with a tiny bit of bling for good measure. It was the perfect outfit to start off the week in, and welcome my new intern! I have the perfect little crop top to rock with this skirt once  it starts to warm up in San Francisco, but for now these warmer separates will do.
