pop! clink! fizz!

Every holiday season I celebrate big things- anniversaries, holiday festivities, special moments with good friends- so it's no surprise I stock up on the libations this time of year. Towards the end of 2014 I'm not stocking up on just any bubbly but a sparkling wine from ONEHOPE, a company I was introduced to at the Fillmore Wine and Food Festival- where the purchase of every bottle make a difference by donating half of the profits to partner causes- ending childhood hunger, fighting breast cancer, supporting our troops, and many more. Booze and benefits? Now that's a beverage I can get behind!

This holiday season I hosted Christmas Eve dinner and decided on a classic cocktail hour pre-dinner. I poured ONEHOPE Sparkling Wine in gold rim champagne flutes and a cranberry garnish, alongside some jazzed up nibbles. I put together a cream cheese and cranberry jalapeƱo jelly dip, as well as a homemade caramel candy cane popcorn- that was super easy to make. I wanted just a few salty and sweet bites to go with the crisp ONEHOPE wine prior to the main course.  Everybody loved the bubbly- including my husband who is not a huge fan of champagne. The festive sparkly bottles truly make this ONEHOPE beverage the obvious choice for this time of year!

Tonight I'll be ordering up a champagne cocktail- or two- at the bar around midnight, and since this is the perfect bubbly I'm hoping they'll have ONEHOPE at the bar. Hope you all have a lovely few last hours of this year, and cheers to the next one! Thank you for all your support of Allergic to Vanilla in 2014, cheers to 2015!

I wore this look to my husband's work holiday party not too long ago- while it's quite festive indeed, and has that masculine touch I love to incorporate in an good party outfit it's not only reserved for the Christmas holidays. I'm super into wearing some variation of this giant bow tie and sequin combo for when the ball drops. Although, I may be a wee bit more covered up since I'll be spending it in Montreal this year!! We landed yesterday, and it's already 19 degrees, it may just be turtlenecks, overalls, and fur coats here for me!

little indulgences

What a week, right?! I've been a bit off the map for the last few days, and that's just the way I like my holidays. I've been traveling between our two families the past few days, cooking, cleaning, decorating, eating a little of this, and sipping on a little of that. This season (for me) it's all about indulging, anyone agree? I've been a good girl- going to the gym, going on hikes (AKA walking in San Francisco), and eating my greens so I definitely deserve to indulge my sweet tooth.

This year my sweet tooth beckoned for mulled wine, champagne, a variety of cookies and the most indulgent treat of all- egg nog with a rum float. It's divine and easy to make. I filled a champagne coupe with half a shot of spiced rum, then slowly poured egg nog from the box into the coupe, close to the rim. The float of rum remains at the top while the egg nog stays at the bottom of the glass- easy and looks pretty!

Hope you all had wonderful holidays and enjoy the rest of this festive time of year. My husband and I are off to Montreal to ring in the New Year so please send over any suggestions if you've been!

I have been wearing this vintage-esque silhouette frock nonstop- it is my perfect holiday go-to dress. Plaid is a print I usually reach for during this time of year so it was a bit of a no-brainer. A holiday getup I gravitate to is a deep slicked side part or a Heidi braid updo, a vivid matte red lip, and a standout piece of jewelry- lately it's been a pair of diamond cluster earrings, but this simple gold necklace was the perfect addition this time around.

Hoping you all are having a wonderful holiday whatever you celebrate, and Merry Christmas Eve! Stay tuned for a special post tomorrow!

It's Christmas week y'all! I'm super excited, this (besides summer) is one of my favorite times of the year. While this outfit may not seem Christmas-y (no red and green, no sparkles) it sure felt like it- any time the temperature goes below 60 in San Francisco it feels like an official "winter". And yet here I am punishing myself by wearing skirt overalls, albeit super fab ones- so I made up for the chill by wearing tall cognac boots and a shearling moto. Never fear though, sparkles coming your way very soon! Hope you are all enjoying these last few days before the holiday rush.

This Christmas holiday I want nothing more than to surround myself with all things holiday like- Christmas movies, Christmas cookies, Christmas...well, you get the drift. To me, fully enjoying this time of year is snuggled up at home in a faux fur throw, having a cup of spiked egg nog while The Holiday plays in the background and I'm wrapping up presents. Heaven, no? Only one thing could truly make this at home holiday scenario any better- mood lighting- and by mood lighting I mean a gilded Atelier candle by Dayna Decker- queen of fab candle scents. I mentioned my obsession with these gold candles in my gift guide but they look so much more beautiful in person that I had to share my yearly holiday ritual with you all and my new candle. This season I'm burning the Champaca Chablis- it smells divine, and after it all burns down I'm cleaning out the wax and using the gold cup as a makeup brush holder or a little vase!

What is your at home holiday tradition?

gift guide for the luxe lady

Gift Guide for the Luxe Lady: Clarins, DayNa Decker, fashion, Karen Walker, Missguided, Miu Miu, polyvore, Stop Staring!, style, gift guide, santa baby, LAFACE, DITTO, faux fur, Pinrose,

It's true I have my moments, but for the majority of the year I've been (ahem) an angel, so this year the gift guide is for me those who need a little something fabulous in their stocking. I've put together a guide of some of the most luxe items a lady needs whether to upgrade her home, her makeup bag or her closet- a one stop shop so Santa finally gets it right.

Beauty & Fragrance:
Pinrose: I love my SF local brands and this fragrance brand is one of the newest additions to the scene here. They offer a starter kit with ten pinrose petals and your giftee gets to choose her favorite fragrance from the bunch. Every lady needs a signature scent, this is the easiest way to chose which ones she doesn't like and which she does.

Clarins: You guys know I love my Clarins. So of course I'm going to recommend some luxe skincare a la Clarins. They have yummy skincare gift sets, and their serums are some of the best I've ever tried, but this time around I'm touting the new Kit Sourcils Pro Perfect Eyes & Brows Palette. You all know how important brows are, right?! Well this kit gets it right.

LAFACE: As a skin proponent this gal is all about trying out new lines just to make sure I'm using the best one out there. I was recently introduced to LAFACE, a local NorCal brand, and was instantly charmed by the gorgeous Founder and CEO. I've only tried out the Pur facial wash which was heaven, but I've been told the entire line is Paraben free, hypoallergenic, and not tested on animals. Win win in my book!

Home Decor:
A well dressed lady needs a good smelling abode and these Dayna Decker candles will create the perfect mood anytime. I was introduced to Miss Decker's candles last year when Bloomies sent over one of her Atelier scents, and it was love at first glance, and whiff. They are luxe, decadent, and GOLD! What more does a girl want?

In the Closet:
Stop Staring!: This LA (gasp) brand is making me rethink my affection for all the tom-boy chic looks I'm obsessed with. Yes, gamine chic is pretty perfect, but a lady needs a gorgeous dress to dress the part as well, and the gorgeous vintage style dresses at Stop Staring! fit the bill. There is something for everyone at this shop, from the girly-est girl, to the girl that hates to dress up- trust me when I say she will find something that she is obsessed with on this site!

Missguided: You know I'm such a fan of this brand- it's a great price point, on-trend, but most off all they do faux fur SO well. You remember this coat, and this one too? Both Missguided, and both fabulous. Every lady needs a fur, but a fur stole is most definitely the chicest thing ever, and the one thing she probably won't buy for herself because she didn't think she needed one. The sumptuous navy hue on this stole above is divine and something every gal's closet needs

Eyewear:
I may not need eyewear of the seeing kind- doesn't mean I don't occasionally sport specs for the look- but I generally don't go anywhere without my sunnies. Summertime or wintertime you should always have them around- they protect from fine lines and wrinkles and keep a girl looking mysterious and chic- double win. I recently was introduced to DITTO by Alex and realized my sunglass collection was no where near complete. DITTO is a local SF brand (holla!) that actually allows to a lady to virtually try on any pair of glasses or shades. They take a mini video of your face, and you can try on all the shades you want. I've already added more than a few styles in my cart. Three words: oversized tortoise shell.

Well there you have it ladies, and gents...and um..Santa, only a few more days to do to get those online orders in. Trust me when I say any of these luxe gifts on this list are perfect and will definitely make any giftee feel like she's been an angel all year!

Capes and I have been having a moment, Last time I wore my plaid fringe one I told you guys how obsessed I was with the ease of these toppers- they could become a scarf, a blanket or a stylish outerwear option. So the minute I saw this Zara cape on the Black Friday sale you know I snatched it up (along with a a few other goodies you may have already seen on my Instagram!) Speaking of Black Friday I was good this year, I only bought three items- it may have to do less with the budget I've put myself on and more with the fact that I can't see the back of my closet. My New Year's resolution may or may not have something to do with cleaning, editing and figuring that situation out.

Let's get back to the cape shall we? Isn't it fab? I'm a little obsessed with all things "old-lady chic"- clip on vintage earrings, fur coats, and now wraps. There is just something about a bygone era where ladies used to really dress up for no reason at all. And this cape does just that with such superb simplicity.

Remember this sweatshirt? Sure you do! I recently saw a catalog mailer with a similar side zip sweater styled this way, and couldn't help but replicate the look with my own closet. I mean there are so many ways to wear this sweatshirt. It worked out famously, I love the clean lines, the muted palette and the varied textures the look has going on.  I was initially planning on changing out of the denim and booties for a side zip pencil skirt and pumps, but my girlfriend Donna said I had a NYC hipster grunge thing going on. I don't usually do hipster grunge, but when your girlfriend says it, it sounds that much cooler. What do you think denim or pencil skirt?

Hope you'll have a fabulous weekend! Don't forget if you haven't already, today is the last day for my giveaway with Amazon and some other lovely ladies. Check it out and enter here!
