Remember when I spoke about "Decade Style" here? One decade that I always have truly admired was the 70's- it had a sprinkling of everything from glitz and glamour in the Studio 54 era, to the casual and comfortable aesthetic of the hippie bohemian movement. 70's style continues to inspire and influence designers, artists, trends, and manages to make it's way into columns and articles monthly. With it's influence came tastemakers that forever imprinted the world with their cheeky spin on 70's style. While I will always have a soft spot for the glamour side of it all, the down-to-earth, girl-next-door vibe reigns supreme any day in my book. The style icons from that era that really inspired me were Jane Birkin and Joyce DeWitt. Jane needs no introduction, she been written and referred to ad nauseam- her playful neck ties, and penchant for high waisted flares made her an icon in her own right. Joyce, better known as Janet, was the girl-next-door on the sitcom Three's Company that aired in the late 70's. Janet was had a sexy tomboy aesthetic and a memorable hairdo that only she can continue to pull of. This western, eclectic outfit was inspired by those two and the 70's style that continues to influence us all today.
