Never thought I would ever show you an outfit this casual. I'm an avid print-on-print, all of the colors kinda gal, how could I just go out in two. colors? Truth is, I liked how easy it was to get dressed this day. No major meetings, no one to "impress" but the puppies at the dog park, and no reason not to wear this easy-breezy look. So here I am in all of my basic-ness glory, and I dig it. Here's to a happy, and un-basic Monday!

This denim romper situation is one I just can't quit. I mean overalls are in general pretty perfect but the addition of the skirt really feminizes that tomboy look. I was headed to the park this day for Miss Mia's puppy birthday party so I wanted to be comfortable- but you know I can't do sweats comfortable- so I went for Saturday-tomboy-chic instead. I added a buttoned all-the-way-up polo I found in the boys section (always look in the kids section, I find some of my favorites there!) with the cutest elephant print, a pair of high-top sneakers, and my go-to weekend hat- the oversized fedora. It was the perfect park day outfit, and since the weather in San Francisco was actually beautiful I didn't even need the denim jacket I brought along.

How would you wear this denim romper? I would love to hear your styling tips!

Denim makes you feel comfortable, it makes you feel good and look good- it's one of those materials that work no matter the day or time. It's the never-fail fabric so why not head-to-toe denim? It's not just a Canadian tux, it's so much more with the overalls. I just may start to don head-to-toe denim situations more often.

top 4 ways to style overalls+ HP x360

Remember that Instagram teaser when I said I was styling and shooting something special with HP?! Well I'm officially partnering with them to share my style four ways in honor of the new HP x360, a laptop that can be used in four different modes- tent, tablet, stand, and laptop mode. I'm pretty obsessed with the chicness of the design and the versatility that I get from this savvy device. It has the compactness of a tablet, the usefulness of tent mode (hello rerun binges!), has a touch screen and is still a functioning laptop to boot! Inspired by the HP x360's different modes I wanted to style one of my favorite garments in 4 different ways.

Since my style is really difficult to pigeonhole into one classification and constantly evolving I wanted to showcase one special style that has grabbed ahold of my heart as of late- the overall. Overalls are  easy to style in various ways, they can be really high-fashion or casual downtown, and have the convenience factor of a no-brainer easy outfit. Since I already had several pairs stocked in a few shades and styles it made sense to share four of my favorite ways to wear them.

All denim

I generally start my day with coffee- so when I get to start the day at a coffee shop for meetings with potential clients, catching up with girlfriends, or grabbing a cup with my husband before the day begins it's a good day. This day I wanted a high-fashion, monochromatic look with a bit of glimmer in form of brooches and pins, and a sleek nude pump to elongate lines. I styled my light-denim-wash-boyfriend-overalls with a darker wash chambray, shirt and a similarly hued denim jacket for my morning coffee meeting.

Sporty casual

As much as I love my heels, this San Francisco gal needs an off-day. So on my casual dress-down days I really enjoy keeping it simple in a black and white color palette, and comfortable yet chic sneakers. With loose carefree curls, a big smile, and my HP x360 in tablet mode I can answer emails outside or in the park in my comfy-chic look.

Tomboy Chic

I'm determined to pretend it's not really winter, and that the sun peaking out means it's time to bust out my spring style looks- and this skirt overall set is really too perfect to keep hidden on a winter day. Good thing it was actually a gorgeous day in SF when I decided to put this printed polo, fedora, and high-top sneaker look with my denim romper.

Business Casual

When I need to run meetings, make an impression or feel my outfit needs a little professional oomph I don a blazer (and my HP x360). So blazer over overalls? Yes, all day, any day, it's so right on so many levels. This look is probably one of my favorites as it includes my go-to white buttonup- a classic piece with my otherwise cheeky outfit. Throw on some sculptural heels, maybe a bold lip and roll the hem up so a sliver of ankle peeks out! Perfection.

Check out HP's site to learn more about the x360, the four convertible modes seriously make this one of the coolest gadgets I own! Speaking of cool, HP is on tour with the ever-so-stylish Miss Meghan Trainor on her ongoing #BendTheRules tour! Check out the tour page and see where she'll be next!

I've been know to dabble in the contrasting prints in my time as a blogger. At one time I think that was the reason anybody knew me. Remember this post and this post and this post?! Yup, all a mixture of gorgeously loud and colorful prints. Let's just say I know a thing or two can't help myself but to mix it up. When the majority of your closet is print over solid you need to make do. I think there are a few things you should take into consideration when trying out contrasting prints yourself.

1. Do you feel comfortable? If not it'll show the minute you step out of your home. People wear confidence on their sleeve whether they want to or not so make sure you love everything about what your wearing and it'll make you feel that much better.
2. Same color family. You've heard that one before, I'm sure. It's true, two different pieces can work so well when they are in the same region of the color wheel, like this post!
3. Similar type of pattern. Even if your contrasting patterned clothing are not in the same color family I think it could work, take for example this outfit. The colors are not the same, and the two items are actually pretty loud themselves- but, they work together because they are both geometric prints, and because one color is more subdued than the other.
4. Grounding element. One item in you outfit needs to be a basic, whether it's a white tee, or in this case  a pair of basic black denim. That way you really showcase the contrasting prints.

Or, maybe the whole thing worked because I was running late to catch my bus this day, so consequentially I threw on the coziest thing closest to me-- and perhaps I just got lucky. ;) How do you do contrasting prints? Send me some links in the comments, I want to see!

valentine's prep in four steps

pink roses, baby pink roses
Feb 14th, Valentine's Day
Bare Minerals, Moxie, makeup, beauty blogger, Complexion Rescue, Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue
Tea time, me time, marble counters, baked goods, fine china, grandmother's china

If there is any reason to get in the spirt of a holiday I'm there. Christmas- string of lights aplenty, evergreen candle, plethora of red and green accents. Fourth of July- red white and blue requisite attire, classic American cuisine on the BBQ, planning a getaway for that extra day off- check, check, check. So, it's no surprise that when February 1st rolls around I'm already in the pink and red clich├ęd mindset of Valentine's day. Or Gal-entine's if you were a reader this time last year!

Of course preparation for this big day needs needs lots of planning, primping and eating. ;)

1. Florals. I head to the Flower Mart once a week to pick up the prettiest of seasonal blooms to decorate our home with, plus, I love bringing nature into the house!
2. Countdown. Having a actual calendar pinned to the wall by the front door is the best way to remind you of the upcoming special day.
3. Primp. Bare Minerals sent over a lovely care package with their newest Complexion Gel Cream and a slew of fun lip shades. I have been trying out all the colors and can't wait to don a fun lip for our V-day date night this week. I'm thinking the bold fuchsia would be perfect!
4. Me time, tea time. Indulging in sweets is my favorite part of this holiday. Sipping tea from china my grandmother gave me is a close second.

These are some of the shots from my Gal-entine's Soiree last year- too much fun! How are you spending your Gal-entine's day?
