Remember when I spoke about "Decade Style" here? One decade that I always have truly admired was the 70's- it had a sprinkling of everything from glitz and glamour in the Studio 54 era, to the casual and comfortable aesthetic of the hippie bohemian movement.  70's style continues to inspire and influence designers, artists, trends, and manages to make it's way into columns and articles monthly. With it's influence came tastemakers that forever imprinted the world with their cheeky spin on 70's style. While I will always have a soft spot for the glamour side of it all, the down-to-earth, girl-next-door vibe reigns supreme any day in my book. The style icons from that era that really inspired me were Jane Birkin and Joyce DeWitt. Jane needs no introduction, she been written and referred to ad nauseam- her playful neck ties, and penchant for high waisted flares made her an icon in her own right. Joyce, better known as Janet, was the girl-next-door on the sitcom Three's Company that aired in the late 70's. Janet was had a sexy tomboy aesthetic and a memorable hairdo that only she can continue to pull of. This western, eclectic outfit was inspired by those two and the 70's style that continues to influence us all today.

So many inexpensive matching suits, check them out below:

I love a good, sharp suit, but sometimes a suit need to be dressed down. Especially one that has dozens of mini poodle prints splashed up and down it. I've worn this suit before (how could I not?) I was at one point obsessed with wearing all matching tops and bottoms. But today's version is a bit paired down- or as paired down as a matching poodle print look can get.

A few gold neck accessories, my go-to slip-on sneakers and a matching pop of blue on my trusty Summer sunglasses-- re-work this look and make it Friday office apropos.

How would you rework this look?

A Gaucho is a resident of the South American pampas, or Patagonia Grasslands, found mainly in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Southern Brazil, and Southern Chile. Their main duty is to herd cattle all year long. Why am I telling you this? Because Francisco told me this is what I looked like, when I emerged from my closet wearing this getup. Maybe it was the looser-than-usual top, or the costume-y scarf but I for one, felt a little cool- it felt different from the typical SF uniform- something I like to pride myself in not partaking in.  But then to find out this "look" was already trademarked by the South Americans and half of Latin America- only goes to show fashion really is cyclical, and most of it has already been "done"/worn by someone else.

Speaking of fashion- I do love this baby blue hue with a pop of red, it compliments nicely. Paired along with a cropped skinny jean, a slim kitten D'Orsay heel, and a sleek car coat- turn this look into less costume and more country-meets-city-chic.

decade style

Farrah's quintessential working-girl chic look:

Mary Tyler Moore, red bandana, silk neck scarf, 70's style
Mary's classic looks that seemed to have inspired today's bandana neck moment:

 70's style, peacoat, Marianne Faithful

Ali, Jane, Farrah, Mary, Marianne- major babes and 70's style icons in their own right. When I think back to shows from that era, the current artist du jour, or old film footage from documentaries of old, one thing is evident- 70's style was all about freedom, and movement, with a sprinkling of excess. I'm so glad the 70's are having a style revival- a very appropriate summer trend if you think about it.

Which 70's babe is your fave?

blogger sidewalk sale: #BendTheRules

Last weekend, along with three girlfriends, I helped host an amazing blogger sidewalk sale. Bryn spearheaded it and came up with the fantastic idea in collaboration with HP. We were tasked to think outside the box and #BendTheRules with our project, and we sure did! Think rolling racks packed with new and pre-loved clothing seen in previous blog posts, rows and rows of good shoes, and even gluten-free donuts and of course no good blogger sidewalk-sale would be complete without a mimosa- yes we had those on hand too! We wanted an impressive selection of clothing for all buyers to pick from so it was a dream to work with tastemakers like Bryn- a fierce marketeer and fellow blogger, Alex- a fab friend and stellar OOTD inspiration and Michaela- and one-woman power house who runs a dreamy online mag. To say the clothing selection was good was an understatement.

We were inspired by this HP x360 'Behind the Scenes' video,  to bring life and movement to the still images that we usually showcase on the blog, and in being inspired we Bent the Rules on our usual blog agenda. It made me realize I need to bend the rules more often, I don't shoot a lot of videos pieces here on the blog but when I have, I've loved it- I need to incorporate more of that in the future.  The video inspired the collaboration between the four of us- because we saw the potential in creating something greater than ourselves by pooling our resources, and rocking out on an amazing opportunity to create a fab video of our own, and making a little extra cash!

The HP x360 is one amazing piece of machinery, below you'll get to see us showing off some fabulous features, like it's convertible screen, and it's 13 inch touchscreen.

unfinished business

Fave nude pump options, including an inexpensive pair:
{Top c/o TopShelf Style, Denim, Heels, Sunglasses, Clutch, Blazer}

This look is literally so fresh and so clean to say I'm obsessed is an understatement. Both the top and jeans come from local SF boutique, TopShelf Style. The top is a gorgeous, crisp, frayed-edged, boxy crop in a denim-esque material. It's pure perfection and nothing, not even a good glass of red, will get in the way of me and this baby. The denim, by Blank, are practically painted on me, with perfect distressed bits just so, the dreamiest ankle crop length, and an ideal blue jean blue. Perfect Spring outfit if you will.

Won't you come by tomorrow night (if you are in SF) to TopShelf Style and find your perfect Spring outfit? I'm hosting a little party with cocktails, and sweet treats. It'll be fun!

little red dress

So many great, inexpensive LRD's (little red dresses) like this one, this one, and this one!

Give me a sunny day and an off-the-shoulder look will no-doubt ensue. This airy and colorful red dress  is a departure from the simple neutrals I've recently come to sport, and I love it. the cherry hue screams summertime, so naturally open-toed sandals, locks of free-flowing curls and a sassy pair of shades were mandatory.

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'm helping host an event this Thursday, more details here! Hope to see you there!
