Today is my birthday, another year older another year wiser and another year of skin issues, that's how the saying goes right? This DERMSTORE box of mostly new-to-me skin care brands couldn't of come at a better time as I've been breaking out lately (le sigh) and the youthful glow I once had sadly isn't obtained by washing with soap bars and sunbathing out on the roof anymore.

DERMSTORE sent over their August BeautyFix box which is comprised of a collection of skin and hair care goodies, handpicked by beauty experts. I was able to review all the products above and am letting you in on my favorites, and not so favorites below. Check them out!

Patchology- One word, amazing! I have been all about a good mask lately. Mud mask, face mask, any kind of mask. The moment I pulled out this mask to try it on I was obsessed, it smells phenomenal, felt really hydrating on my skin, and I was able to leave it on for longer than the recommended 5 minutes and it still felt fresh and like it was still working. I need more Patchology in my life! Here are some more masks you can find on the site:

SmartEye- This anti-aging and wrinkle erasing eye cream was interesting to use. I wasn't sure if it was a tinted moisturizing eye cream or a just an eye cream at first but after using it on a long day, it felt like I looked a little brighter around the eyes. Definitely a repeater, who doesn't need bright eyes after a long day.

Face wash- as I mentioned before I used to once wash my not-so-delicate skin with plain old soap bars (shame on me!) I'm definitely wiser so have figured out not to do that, and have discovered a slew of great brands to treat my skin to. Bliss' Fabulous Face wash and Glytone were a treat to get in this box. I fully appreciated the Bliss wash, it smelled great, and had a pretty nice texture too.

Paula's Choice- I've never heard of this line before but fully can get down with a daily skin clearing treatment! This sample has Benzoyl Peroxide so I knew it was going to be good, and it was. I now have a go-to when I break out, it's also a spot remover if you feel a blemish coming on.

Haircare- My hair is curly and really hard to manage (said no one ever) so I wasn't expecting much when I tried the haircare samples that came in my box. I didn't notice a big difference when using the products, I actually have never really found a shampoo I really loved, guess I'll need to keep on searching.

If you want to buy a DERMSTORE BeautyFix box for the month of August they are still available, I highly encourage trying out this service at least once. It's really fun to get all the mini samples and some full size items to try out, especially the brands you've never heard of. I for one will definitely be needing more of those Patchology masks.

Happy weekend!

I'm getting married very soon. It's a destination wedding, somewhere tropical and I have illusions, or disillusions of rustic ethereal grandeur. Here's hoping my wedding dreams become a real life pin board. Here are some tidbits of what I'm thinking and why:

I'm super into the flowy vibes of these wipsy beach ready gowns. Since it's going to be hot, I wanted less fabric in a more breathable texture. I might add a fauna crown, and keep my fingers crossed I get Giselle-eque waves, for my "I Do's!"
The floaty paper banners seen in the above images are called papel picado, traditional Mexican celebratory decor. Papel Picado in stark white was something I had to have. I ordered several wedding banners and am hoping that mixing them with tiny lights, and the sound of the waves crashing in the background will make for a magical and meaningful atmosphere. Also super obsessed with the mini maracas. How fun would those be to hand out to guests?

The naked cake is newish to the wedding game but something I had never heard of before. It's a gorgeous wedding cake sans loads of frosting, peppered with fresh flowers, thin layers of icing, jam, and beautiful extras like fruit and leaves. I'm obsessed (again!) The destination part of this magical day makes it tough to determine whether I get this type of cake or not as bakeries are far and few between over there. So we'll see what I get. Might have to make my own! Keep your fingers crossed for me.

There is less than a week and a half to go til the "Big Day" and here I am looking at more accessories. Who am I kidding I'm always looking at new accessories. Here are some favorites if you want to take a peek. Think they might have express shipping?

oversized ruffle dress

OOTD, baby blue dress, oversize ruffles, Superga sneakers, Urban Outfitters dress, mesh lace insert dress, SF style, summer style, SF style, Ectu LA bag, tortoise shell sunglasses,

This dress is all kinds of sold out, every single place I searched for it, it was out. So I've linked a few other options in all different price points from a slew of different brands. The Barney's one is my next favorite.

What a weekend, guys! I'm getting married (!) in less than two weeks and having mini breakdowns everyday, hence the radio silence over here. More on my wedding in a future post this week, but let's chat about this dress. It's amazing. The oversize ruffles, as if you didn't already know, had me at first sight. The lace-y netting at the top adds a little something sexy to an otherwise innocent dress, and the pockets, well those are just always good to have, am I right? Really wish I could link to this dress for you guys, but it's sold out so I added a few similar styles, and others in a similar blue hue, because that is such a great color!

Happy Monday! Here's is hoping I make it through today. :)

I knew even without trying this dress on that it was coming home with me. It's not very often I go into H&M, possibly because it's too easy to pick up a few things and not see a big dent in my wallet, but also because the closet space factor is starting to become an issue.

A few weeks ago on a particular stressful day I decided to treat myself- half expecting to not find anything- but stumbling upon this burnt orange ruffled beauty, albeit one size too big. I figured I'd eventually get it tailored, but I actually enjoy the looser cut for now. Of course the raw hemmed silk ruffles are what really sold me on this number, that and the pockets. It's always the pockets.

Happy Tuesday, beauties!

instagramable moments

Instagram is hands down my favorite app, said no one ever, but seriously if you aren't following me- now's the time. You get outfits I never post on here and tidbits into my favorite jaunts in San Francisco or wherever I'm stationed at the moment and there are food pics, lots of food pics. Here are some of my favorite looks from last week and where to get the items or similarly styled items, as well as look into my Ulta Salon experience...

This past weekend I was able to tour the latest and greatest Ulta in SF, it involved some pampering, makeup application and me walking out feeling like a million bucks.  The space was spacious, clean and classic Ulta. I was treated to a blowout which was fan-freakin-tastic. I actually had never been to The Salon at an Ulta, and was pleasantly surprised. Check out the image below, think disheveled Victoria Secret runway look. Then I got my brows touched up at the Benefit bar within the store. Brows are one of my biggest weaknesses and the Bene gals and guys take their brows seriously. I love a good Benefit brow service!  If you guys have the chance to take in this store, do it! You'll want #allthestuff. I picked up a bottle of my favorite Essie nail polish- Bikini So Teeny, and was on the hunt for a new fuchsia matte lipstick but they were sold out. I guess that just means I'll have to come back soon!

As you can see I'm beating a dead horse with the bandana trend. Yes it's everywhere, tied up every which way but it's probably the cheapest trend you'll ever invest in, so why not? Plus, it feels very summer to me. #Sorrynotsorry you will continue to see this scarf-tied-around-the-neck look often. Speaking of trends, one that comes and goes is the good old summertime flare denim. It's insanely classic and I assume will return to the forefront year after year. Here I went with a very "classique French" look, or my humble interpretation of it. Just missing the beret, non?
