While in Mexico City over the New Year's break I was good, like real good- I hardly bought anything. With every trip I generally tend to purchase a little something as a token of said trip, a reminder of the journey long after the tan fades, and the mind screenshots get fuzzy. In Mexico that token was the olive cardigan you see above. The minute I saw it shoved between racks of clothing I knew it was coming home in my carry-on. The price point was a tad higher than I wanted to invest in, in a country where the dollar is much stronger, so I left Massimo Dutti with the intention that I would "sleep on it" and come back the following day if it was meant to be. When my husband found a cowl-neck cardigan on his side of the store I took it as a sign, and came back the next day to purchase my cardigan. I couldn't just come home with a bottle of mescal could I now? The mescal would be long gone while this gorgeous olive cardigan will still be keeping me warm.

It's been a wild week, and I'm off to Dallas for Create & Cultivate, so follow me on my Instagram and Snapchat (carlinaharris) for more behind-the-scenes style!

When my mother was a young lady she worked at her local Lancôme counter, in Nicaragua, as a shopgirl- she applied makeup, sold products and acquired quite the taste for their French perfume and high quality creams and products. Many moons later, as I grew up in California, we would often frequent retailers beauty counters to get refills on her empty jars and potions, and remember we always looked for a "gift with purchase". I cherished those moments spent with her shopping at "big girl stores" and feeling important enough to accompany the chicest woman I knew. As I got a little older she'd share her gifts with purchase with me, by the time I was in high school I acquired quite the collection of mini eyeshadows, Tresor samples, and mini mascaras.

To this day I have an affinity for the elegance and the luxury that is Lancôme. When they reached out to see if they could send over some samples, I was thrilled, and so excited to get my hands on their latest and greatest. They sent over the most stunning care package of serums, blushes, lipstick, nail polish and almost every shade of their Teint Idole Ultra Foundation stick! I am in heaven with that glittery box of goodness. I love everything they've sent over, but the two items in heavy rotation have been the serum and a the 'Le Magenta' bold fuschia lipcolor.

Are any of you as obsessed with Lancôme as I am? Do tell what your fave products from them are!

Daily my morning ritual looks something like this- coffee, blog, shower, find an outfit for work, makeup. Now the last part is usually rushed in an attempt to get out of the house to catch my bus. I generally have more of a no-makeup, makeup routine, where I don't have too many steps and only a few key brush strokes and winged eyeliner is placed. This has led in the past to my sister commenting that I "never really wear makeup." Pssh, if only she knew I actually do spend at least 5 to 10 minutes on this part of my day! Come to think of it a five minute application does seem pretty sparse.

Luckily I had a lesson in makeup application scheduled over at the Bloomingdales beauty counter to assist in overall makeup application perfection. This past weekend I was invited to attend one of my favorite retailers beauty events- The Bloomingdales Makeup Date. It was an event showcasing the key trends in makeup and skincare all while being pampered with freebies, bubbly, and sweet treats. Prior to watching the trend forecast show, my sister- an appropriate plus one, and I were treated to getting our makeup done at Nars. That really was a treat, I'd never gotten my make up done there before and I wanted to bring my makeup gal home with me so she could help with my minimalist morning beauty routine. I left with perfect dewy skin, extra highlighter per my request, as well as a perfect orange-red pout. My sister rocked a metallic purple eye shadow, and glowy bronzed skin.

After our makeup application and the show we headed over to Tom Ford where we smelled the most amazing scents I've ever experienced, and were lucky enough to take home a few just-blended samples. Talk about wanting one of each! The Makeup Date was the perfect way to spend Saturday with my favorite gal- being girly, silly and getting pampered.

Big thanks to Bloomies for the invite!

What to do in Mexico: Museo Nacional de Antropología

Allergic To Vanilla, Prada, True Religion silk top, H&M high-waisted flare denim, vintage, ribbon as a necklace, Museo Nacional de Antropología, Mexico
{off-the-shoulder top c/o True Religion sold out but similar here and below, sailor flares, vintage purse, Prada ribbon}

While in Mexico, as a tourist does, we visited quite a few museums. Nestled in between La Reforma and Mahatma Gandhi Street, within Chapultepec Park is the National Museum of Anthropology, or Museo Nacional de Antropología for all my Spanish speakers. This grand location showcases an impressive collection of anthropological and archaeological artifacts from Mexico's pre-Coloumbian heritage. While this location held top-notch salons, art and articfacts, one of the peices that struck me most were the replicas of the pyramids you see behind me here. I sadly did not have an opportunity to visit the real deal over in Teotihuacan a little over an hour away from Mexico City, but envisioning their grandness through the mini replicas I saw took my breath away. One day.

Now that the history lesson is over, let's chat about this outfit shall we? When packing for Mexico I envisioned a 1960s hipster crowd rocking bell bottoms, well-worn brogues and off-the shoulder silk tops- so I went with it. Luckily, or un-luckily depending on how you look at it, I was the only person dressed like this. Below you can shop some of the exact pieces I rocked above.

instagram: my kind of slit

{asos pants, sophia webster heels}

A few weeks ago, back around Christmas I wore this combo on Instagram and was asked to provide links to the products- so here you are. The pants are super sexy in the kind of way I wish a slit was invented. I'd wear these pants all over town with a sharp boss blazer, or even with a cozy oversized knit sweater- the possibilities are endless with these bottoms

layers in mexico city

{plaid shirtdress c/o boohoo, denim, vintage purse, lipstick, sunglasses borrowed from Ditto, pumps, capelette similar}

While in Mexico City, amongst the museum hopping, mescal tasting, and food indulging I did- I had the opportunity to shoot in the Cuauhtémoc area near our hotel. Around every corner pretty much there was a vibrant storefront, vivid shade of paint on a home, or beautifully rustic facade where I wanted to shoot. The entire city is picture perfect. I choose a vibrant cobalt background to showcase this oversized maxi dress layered under jeans, and my new favorite accessory- the caplet. Stay tuned for a more in-depth look at Mexico City in an upcoming post. Have any of you been? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the city!

Happy Monday, everyone!

It has been so cold and windy and rainy since I've been back from Mexico. I mean, sure it technically is Winter, but it was mid 70's everyday over there, so wouldn't you expect the weather to lighten up to? When the weather is missbehaving all I want to do is wear every layer I can find, albeit glamourous ones, but every layer none the less. The short sweater capelet and green faux fur wrap in these pictures are the glamourous layers I'm referring to- perfect to stay warm and look chic while doing so! I scored both of these, and this fedora during the Black Friday sales last year (it feels so weird to say that.) I love pulling off the matchy-matchy look so of course I was going to try to wear both of these green shades together- the moment I saw the green faux fur wrap it was over, I mean the color is just that good, I'll pair it with a bold red lip to really amp up the wow factor.

Stay warm and dry, everyone! One more day until the weekend.

top 30 from 2015

2015- what a year! San Francisco, Los Angeles, Nicaragua, Boston, New York, Mexico- just a few of the places I was lucky enough to visit last year. I love to shoot whenever I travel and these were some of the places the images above were shot at. I've rounded up some of my favorite looks from last year and I've realized I love a good off-the-shoulder situation, fringe anything, neck bandana's, multiple layers and eclectic accessories - these were my jam for 2015. Let's see what the trends have in store for us in 2016.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support, comment contribution, readership and friendship- I write this blog for both you and me, it means so much that you make this little corner of the internet a part of your day! Happy New Year and here is to a great 2016.
