earth day at iron horse vineyards

A few weekends ago my friends over at Iron Horse invited the hubs and I to enjoy an Earth Day celebration at their property in wine country. There was promise of wine, food, music, speakers on how to live a more earth-friendly life, and the impossible burger — a plant-based burger — a meal I was thoroughly looking forward to.

I knew the weather would be warm so I opted for this re:named floral number which is one of my favorite prints to rock in the Spring, and kept the rest of the look simple so the red in this dress could really stand out. We got to the celebration early as we were also invited a VIP hour at the home of the Iron Horse owners, which included caviar (which I didn't partake in since I'm allergic to fish) and bubbles! We were obviously off to a great start sipping bubbles under the giant trees in their stunning backyard.

As we headed from the owners home to the main event we were greeted with a lively crowd and music coming from a big-top tent. We quickly switched our champagne flutes for wine glasses and proceeded to try a few of the other varietals from participating wineries. We noticed other event goers grabbing lunch, and we proceeded to do the same. On the menu we had The Impossible plant-based burger, crispy fries, and more wine. I've never had a plant-based burger and it did not disappoint. I could of eaten another one if they didn't run out. I highly recommend trying one for yourself. All in all it was such a lovely day, Iron Horse really knows how to throw a party. If you are ever in wine country, make sure to get yourself over there and tell them Carlina sent you.

Makeup is one of the things that as a young woman either mystifies you and you embrace it instantly or, you stay away from for a very long time and then find out too late that you have been missing out.  For me, it was a little bit of both, but mostly the later. In high school, I played up the 90's vibes and loved a bold lip liner look and not much else. In college, I found blush and mascara and eyeliner and fell in love with playing with makeup and experimenting with it.

For the most part, I'm into a very natural makeup style so when Clarins sent over their newest product— the 3-Dot Liner —I knew I was in for a treat. This three-prong tipped eyeliner promised an easy to use controlled application, and a bonus — it was enriched with an active ingredient that boosts lash growth. I was sold! The easy-to-apply marker tip was simpler to use and felt more precise from previous attempts at the perfect cat eye. It was also easy to build off of, if I wanted a more natural look it was simple to blend in with my lash line, or I could pull off a winged look with a bit more precision and product. I loved how this 3-Dot Liner kicks it up a notch and makes it super easy to create the perfect cat-eye look. I'm excited to continue using it to see the effects of the promised lash growth; I'll keep you posted!

{Banana Republic pants c/o | Top | Heels | Coat | Sunglasses | Hoops}

Not sure when it started but my affection for striped articles of clothing must have begun years ago when I realized the French looked très chic in stripes and just I had to try this trend out. In the beginning, it was more striped top and beret then Jane Birkin circa 1960, but it's evolved, thank God. Since then it's been one whirlwind of striped look, after look, after look, I just couldn't get enough striped tops — striped top with a blazer, striped top with a denim jacket, you literally could wear a striped top with anything, and I sure did.

I think what I ultimately loved about striped clothing is that they made me happy, and like my best looking self (reason #8978 why I keep buying them). So naturally, when Banana Republic sent me these striped pants to try out I was elated! Even just pulling these babies out of the bag sent me all sorts of good vibes— the color is just incredible, it's part orange neon, part navy, and partial skinny white stripes. My mom and husband dubbed them circus pants but they've seen me wear all the trends and this one is pretty chic, I think. I decided to pair my pants with another striped top (also from Banana ironically enough) and completed the look with a long linen duster coat and my favorite heels —  boss babe approved! When I walked home at the end of the day, I switched out my heels for casual white sneakers, untucked my shirt, and instantly the outfit was elevated to a chic off-duty version of the outfit above.

All in all stripes and striped pants move me and make me happy, and happy girls are the prettiest girls Audrey Hepburn once said, so I'm going with staying happy. ;)

When in Healdsburg one must dine at Valette — it encompasses all that is wine country. The restaurant has a chic but homey vibe, serves up contemporary American fare, sources locally- both food and wine- or bring in a bottle from your tastings earlier they'll cork it for you! I tried the chefs tasting menu and glad I wore this loose bell sleeved dress, I needed all the extra room I could get afterwards.

what to do if you only have 24 hours in Healdsburg

24 hours in Healdsburg, How to do 24 hours in Healdsburg, wine weekend in Healdsburg, what to do if you only have 24 hours in Healdsburg
I was recently invited by Emily Martin events to experience a fabulous mini weekend getaway (in 24 hours no less) to Healdsburg! Living so close to wine country makes for the perfect weekend getaway as it's only about an hour and a half away so of course, I was in. Plus, I'm generally on the hunt for some sunshine, so it was a win-win(e) situation. ;)

9 am: Kara, Mak, and I decided to carpool on this trip. I took a car down to the Sunset to meet the girls bright and early to beat the traffic. It was great getting the know the girls better during this mini-drive, we talked blog strategy, laughed, got into a little bit of traffic, laughed some more, and finally made it to our first destination- 235 Luxury Suites, our hotel for the evening.

11 am: We arrived on time with a few minutes to spare and practically bounced out of Kara's car to be greeted by the 80-degree sunshine, warm breeze, and the rest of our Healdsburg group- Amy, Kelly, Emily and Megan.  As we stepped into the lobby at 235 Luxury Suites, we were escorted to our rooms by our lovely innkeeper.  Kara, Kelly and I were staying in the same suite space, so we took the elevator up to the second floor and found ourselves in an expansive and chicly furnished 3-room floor plan. Not only did we have one good looking place to stay but the folks at 235 set us up with a beautiful "welcome home" gift of wine and snacks. I instantly fell in love.

12 pm: Once we dropped off our bags, insta-storied the unveiling of our rooms, and put on our SPF we were off to our first destination —SIDURI Wine Bar and Tasting Lounge. It was all of 100 feet away from our hotel so even after forgetting my USB card in my laptop over in my room, I was able to run back, grab the card, and head back to our first tasting without missing a beat- the girls were actually still shooting the place, so I doubt they even noticed I was gone. SIDURI has a down-home, charming vibe, complete with big open windows to let in large amounts of breeze and natural light, decorated in a great dusty blue color palette, with cool vintage style paraphernalia like a record player and vinyl to complete the feel. We sat down with Founder and Winemaker Adam Lee who gave us the rundown on SIDURI's journey complete with a delicious Pinot Noir and food pairing. Pro Tip: The Russian River Valley Pinot was divine, make sure you ask to try it if you are Pinot fan. Each person had a mini sampler, and I practically ate everything off of mine.

1:45 pm: We departed our first tasting and went in search of Banshee Wines across the square a few blocks away. The sun was shining, music was playing, and people were sitting on park benches just to enjoy the beautiful weather and each others company. Once we arrived at Banshee it was evident why it's known as "the cool kid on the block," it's eclectically cool in a vintage, Southwestern charm meets Restoration Hardware kind of way. We were promptly seated at a large farmhouse style table underneath a sea of golden orbs doubling up as prop lighting for the massive amount of pictures we proceeded to take. The space was to too cool to just sit and admire, I got up to shoot everything I possibly could, from the moss-green built in wine shelving to the bookshelf filled with knick-knacks and super soft tees for sale, to the impressive leather swivel chairs and the even comfier couch flanked by southwestern stools. Not only was the decor impressive but the wines delivered as well, everyone was a big fan of the Rosé which was served out of a magnum, and I even took home a bottle of the Mordecai to share with Francisco when I got home. A couple of the girls brought home a few magnums of Rosé to share with their respective friends and family as well. I was impressed with this place and would come back- the photo ops alone were worth it.

3 pm: We had a 45-minute break to recharge and do our own thing until the next tasting began. Some of the girls went to The Shed- a one-stop shop for housewares, pantry provisions, and garden tools, some of the girls went to grab a coffee at one of the nearby local places, and Kara and I decided we wanted to shoot- and shoot we did!

3:45pm: Refreshed and recharged we found ourselves on Healdsburg Ave. at La Crema Tasting Room Healdsburg for our final tasting of the day.  We were greeted with a cheese and charcuterie platter to be rivaled from any we ate earlier that day- this girl was hungry and practically devoured all the Swiss. We were sat in the back room and treated to a plethora of La Crema wine, our sommelier even did a blind taste test where a few of the girls had to try and guess which wine was which!

5:15pm: With bellies full of wine and cheese six happy girls wandered back to 235 Suites in search of some downtime and an outfit change or two — to shoot even more looks.

7:30pm: The group met up at Valette, our gracious dinner host for the evening. The menu was contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on local food and wine. We were treated to a five-course "trust me" dinner, where it was chefs choice, we let him know what our allergies were and he worked his magic to serve us delicious meals accordingly. Everything was tasty and fresh, but per usual my favorite course was dessert. The girls split every course so we could each get a taste of what everyone was eating so naturally dessert was also shared. Some highlights for me were the Caramella Chocolate Semifreddo, the Bread Butter and Jam, and the overindulging of wine and chatter towards the end of the evening. With all the energy and wine flowing it was clear we weren't ready to stop the night. We decided to grab one more drink at a local spot, John and Zeke's, and then it was time to get some beauty sleep.

11:30pm: Lights out and time to catch up on Instagram while falling asleep. :) zzzz

9:30am: Not going to lie, I hit the snooze a couple of times, but once I finally woke up it was nice to just lie in those deliciously comfortable sheets, I sure do love hotel beds! I quickly showered, got ready and packed up. After dropping our bags off at the car, we walked to our breakfast spot — The Parish Cafe. Moments after we sat down Emily ordered the table a few plates of beignets, as soon as those powdery bits of deliciousness came out I was in love. I ordered a coffee and the Shrimp and Grits as my entree- but secretly was wishing I ordered a plate of the beignets just for me!

11:30:am: After breakfast we hopped in our respective cars down the long country highway with the windows rolled way down to our next and final destination — Reeve Wine. This place is exactly how you should end a magical 24 hours in Healdsburg. It. Was. Stunning.

Walking up the estate, there was a warm breeze in the air, a smell of summer somewhere far off even though it was barely the start of spring. We walked up to a beautiful rustic-chic space, with a large outdoor patio shaded by trees, flanked by vineyards, and goats frolicking in a pen nearby.  After shooting a million shots of the space, and even attempting a drone video we settled into our outdoor seats to swirl and sip with winemaker Noah Dorrance. Once our tasting slowed down the group hopped into the back of Noah's truck, and we drove to his guest estate up the hill. Viewing this home was a highlight of the trip! This expansive guest house complete with wine cave, pool and insane views of the Valley was epic. I need to get back to Reeve ASAP to experience this again. It's also available to rent if you are in the market!
