earth day at iron horse vineyards

A few weekends ago my friends over at Iron Horse invited the hubs and I to enjoy an Earth Day celebration at their property in wine country. There was promise of wine, food, music, speakers on how to live a more earth-friendly life, and the impossible burger — a plant-based burger — a meal I was thoroughly looking forward to.

I knew the weather would be warm so I opted for this re:named floral number which is one of my favorite prints to rock in the Spring, and kept the rest of the look simple so the red in this dress could really stand out. We got to the celebration early as we were also invited a VIP hour at the home of the Iron Horse owners, which included caviar (which I didn't partake in since I'm allergic to fish) and bubbles! We were obviously off to a great start sipping bubbles under the giant trees in their stunning backyard.

As we headed from the owners home to the main event we were greeted with a lively crowd and music coming from a big-top tent. We quickly switched our champagne flutes for wine glasses and proceeded to try a few of the other varietals from participating wineries. We noticed other event goers grabbing lunch, and we proceeded to do the same. On the menu we had The Impossible plant-based burger, crispy fries, and more wine. I've never had a plant-based burger and it did not disappoint. I could of eaten another one if they didn't run out. I highly recommend trying one for yourself. All in all it was such a lovely day, Iron Horse really knows how to throw a party. If you are ever in wine country, make sure to get yourself over there and tell them Carlina sent you.

Makeup is one of the things that as a young woman either mystifies you and you embrace it instantly or, you stay away from for a very long time and then find out too late that you have been missing out.  For me, it was a little bit of both, but mostly the later. In high school, I played up the 90's vibes and loved a bold lip liner look and not much else. In college, I found blush and mascara and eyeliner and fell in love with playing with makeup and experimenting with it.

For the most part, I'm into a very natural makeup style so when Clarins sent over their newest product— the 3-Dot Liner —I knew I was in for a treat. This three-prong tipped eyeliner promised an easy to use controlled application, and a bonus — it was enriched with an active ingredient that boosts lash growth. I was sold! The easy-to-apply marker tip was simpler to use and felt more precise from previous attempts at the perfect cat eye. It was also easy to build off of, if I wanted a more natural look it was simple to blend in with my lash line, or I could pull off a winged look with a bit more precision and product. I loved how this 3-Dot Liner kicks it up a notch and makes it super easy to create the perfect cat-eye look. I'm excited to continue using it to see the effects of the promised lash growth; I'll keep you posted!

Not sure when it started but my affection for striped articles of clothing must have begun years ago when I realized the French looked très chic in stripes and just I had to try this trend out. In the beginning, it was more striped top and beret then Jane Birkin circa 1960, but it's evolved, thank God. Since then it's been one whirlwind of striped look, after look, after look, I just couldn't get enough striped tops — striped top with a blazer, striped top with a denim jacket, you literally could wear a striped top with anything, and I sure did.

I think what I ultimately loved about striped clothing is that they made me happy, and like my best looking self (reason #8978 why I keep buying them). So naturally, when Banana Republic sent me these striped pants to try out I was elated! Even just pulling these babies out of the bag sent me all sorts of good vibes— the color is just incredible, it's part orange neon, part navy, and partial skinny white stripes. My mom and husband dubbed them circus pants but they've seen me wear all the trends and this one is pretty chic, I think. I decided to pair my pants with another striped top (also from Banana ironically enough) and completed the look with a long linen duster coat and my favorite heels —  boss babe approved! When I walked home at the end of the day, I switched out my heels for casual white sneakers, untucked my shirt, and instantly the outfit was elevated to a chic off-duty version of the outfit above.

All in all stripes and striped pants move me and make me happy, and happy girls are the prettiest girls Audrey Hepburn once said, so I'm going with staying happy. ;)

When in Healdsburg one must dine at Valette — it encompasses all that is wine country. The restaurant has a chic but homey vibe, serves up contemporary American fare, sources locally- both food and wine- or bring in a bottle from your tastings earlier they'll cork it for you! I tried the chefs tasting menu and glad I wore this loose bell sleeved dress, I needed all the extra room I could get afterwards.
