Beauty and skincare especially, have been very important parts of my life. With the little money I could call my own in high school I remember doing mini hauls at Walgreens and seeing how much I could score at the Wet 'n Wild section! All their products were around .99 cents so anytime I had an extra $5 I'm pretty sure I spent it on lipliner, eyeliner, and cheap nail polish.

As my skin (not me!) gets older I am very conscious of the products I put on my face. I'm a big fan of testing multiple products out -- face masks, eye masks, lip masks, serums, exfoliants, etc -- I love them all, and definitely do try them all. Thankfully my budget has grown and I'm lucky enough to be sent lots of fab products to test out and try -- so I wanted to create a monthly series on beauty and skincare and share what I'm crushing on now.

Image 1: {Skin perfector | Cleanser}
Cleansing my face is key for me to maintain soft and well-taken-care-of skin. I wash my skin twice a day with some type of cleanser, sometimes I might switch up my routine and wash my face in the morning with just cold water. Lately, I've been using this Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Triple Cleaner and really love it! There are a few different layers of products in this bottle and you just shake it up to blend them all together. You'll find cleanser, toner and makeup remover, after a long day it feels so nice to take off all the dirt, makeup and all those yucky impurities and this product makes sure it delivers.
Also in the first image is a skin primer that I've been using to prep my skin once it's cleansed. This is the Dior Capture Totale Dream Skin — it acts as a very fancy primer to allow my skin to be a fresh slate in preparation for makeup application. I notice when I wear this product my makeup at the end of the day looks 75% better (less greasy, more even, looks freshly applied) than when I don't. It's definitely a lovely luxury product to include in your skincare regimen.

Image 2: {Moisturizer | Face Oil | Dry Shampoo | Exfoliant}
Prepping the skin post cleanse is probably my favorite part of the getting ready for work or the getting ready for bed process. It's when I really feel like I'm taking care of my skin. First up in this image is an Advanced Smoothing Exfoliant Treatment by Paula's Choice, this is my latest FAVORITE product! It has 10% AHA in it, which promises to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and over-time reduce skin pigmentation and return skin to a younger state. While it's called an "exfoliant" it actually goes on more like a serum, it's not something you scrub on or off. Because of the AHA in this product, it's important to also wear SPF on top because your skin is working overtime to get rid of "age" but that also means it could be more vulnerable to the sun.

Speaking of SPF, the one I've been using lately is Paula's Choice Skin Restoring Moisturizer + SPF 50, which pairs excellently with the exfoliant above. I'm very particular about my SPF, I've tried some very chalky ones (and don't like those at all) so when I find one that glides on easy and blends in well I'm happy. This product definitely fits that bill, and it's a 50 SPF, which is a win-win in my book.

Another moisturizer I've been fangirling over is any type of face oil, it just sounds cooler, am I right? This one by Cosmos is a lovely local line I found in Oakland over the holidays. It has a rose and lavender scent and I am obsessed with it. It smells heavenly and I pretty much have been slathering on 4-5 drops morning and night, to prep my skin for makeup, then prep my skin for bed.

 Image 3: {Glow Shot | Dual Highlighter | Eyeshadow stick}
And of course, no fresh-faced dewy complexion could be accomplished without a little shimmer so bring on those highlighters! If you follow me on IG and stories you already know my love for highlighters runs deep. I've been layering these two shades from two different brands daily for maximum shimmer. When I want to feel pretty but not overdone I reach for my YSL Glow Shots in Sunset, tap a few dots around my cheekbones and blend evenly. If I'm getting glammed up I'll add a few swipes of my Lancôme Illuminator in Rose Gold above.

And there you have it! The best in skincare and beauty for January and February! What are you loving, anything I should check out?

All-black outfits aren't really my jam. I LOVE color, prints, pattern, and sometimes wearing them all together at the same time, even; that's how "Allergic to Vanilla" came to be. Remind me to share the whole story one day.

The outfit you see above started with just the shoes, as I know, some of us begin our looks. The white shoes needed to stand out, and what better way to do that than rock an all-black OOTD? While it felt a little Grease Lightening or Scandinavian minimalist (I am a maximalist through and through), I felt good in it, dare I say my husband even complimented the look!

So there you go, when donning white shoes and looking for a compliment wear ALL BLACK.
