About seven years ago I made my first extended trip to Europe with my now husband. We traveled to Italy, France, and Spain and it was magical. The days were action packed with sightseeing and afternoons with a mid-day break basking in the summer sun to sip on a refreshing beverage, preferably a libation from what I remember. While all our stops were memorable in Italy, a little coastal town called Santa Margherita Ligure was particularly special. It was small, but mighty, and crawling with tanned Italians. That trip was my first introduction to Santa Margherita. Fast forward seven years later, and a different version of Santa Margherita and I meet again, the version that makes a delicious Sparkling Rosé, Pinot Grigio, Prosecco Superiore and Chianti Classico Riserva.

You may have come across or even have tried a bottle of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio but this summer it is your duty to imbibe in a glass or two of their Sparkling Rosé. The stunning blush hue of this effervescent beverage screams summertime. And to that note, it is exactly how I enjoyed my Santa Margherita Sparkling Rosé! This weekend we made our way up to wine country -- because where better to enjoy a beautiful bottle of wine if you aren’t in Italy. We packed a picnic of grapes, salami, brined goat cheese, olives, and a crusty baguette, and popped that bottle in the fridge until it was nice and cool.

Picnics are my favorite way to enjoy the warmer climate with friends and family, next time I’ll bring along some Brie, fig jam, and dried apricots to incorporate into the mix. If you are planning a picnic of your own --don’t forget the Santa Margherita! Besides the flavor, my favorite thing about the Sparkling Rosé is its versatility -- it’s an elegant wine that could be shared with friends in sophisticated coupe glasses celebrating a special occasion or drank out of stemless cups while sprawled out on a blanket under the summer sun. It’s perfect for any occasion.
