What Fashion Week vs. Style Actually Mean to Me

September is a tricky time of year for fashion, in most seasonal areas you are still experiencing warm climate, appropriate for sundresses, flip-flops (as they coming back in style, trust me!) and still haven't yet put away your basket bags. Then, you get conflicting memos from the fashion set at NYFW in their turtlenecks, cowboy boots, and oversized suit separates -- in 80-degree weather no less!  So what's a girl to do?

I read a quote this morning that made so much sense, now I'm paraphrasing here -- Fashion Week is a place to showcase the new trends. Style is what and how you decide to take from it. -- for me, that meant just because cowboy boots, biker shorts or oversized silhouettes are the newest hottest things happening now doesn't mean to go out and buy all of them. I see these trends as additions to my style, if and when I decide to adorn myself.

Above I'm rocking a very Summery dress, in fact, this little Candide number is a silk wrap dress and perfect for those lingering summer days, but I am still in San Francisco after all, and that meant I couldn't really go out in just the dress. I added accouterments to make this outfit more comfortable and appropriate for our local 60 degree weather days. By adding a suede pair of OTK boots, a beret, and a giant oversized coat. While this look might not scream summer or fall particularity, it's quintessentially me, and that is true style.
