denim on denim+ pink fur

{Tart Collections faux fur vest c/o, Zara denim moto jacket (great affordable version!), J. Crew factory tee shirt, Zara jeans, American Eagle paperboy cap, Zara studded loafers, Ray-Ban Wayfarers}

When this beautiful vest came in the mail I'll admit I was a bit intimidated with how exactly to style pink fur. Shocked? Me too, I am supposed to be the girl allergic to vanilla! I've styled and worn grey fur, brown fur, and even a fur snood, but fur this colorful has never entered my closet before- until now.

I knew whatever I paired with this vest just couldn't even try and compete with it, so I kept the rest of this outfit fairly simple. Denim on denim will always work in my opinion, especially broken up by a simple white tee, so that was my base. Then I made sure to add a little sass- with a swipe of bright red lipstick, and some fierce studded loafers, oh, and a dash of menswear with my favorite accessory- the hat. Overall I think it just might work!

Do tell, how would you have styled this pink fur vest?!

the perfect walking heel

{H&M coat, Free People sweater (cool option!), H&M button-up, Asos poodle print skirt (another great poodle print), Bally chain handbag (mini chain bag), Zara suede booties}

If any of you are following me on my instagram- @allergictovanilla- you might have noticed yesterday when I posted a little sneak peek of my outfit. The red suede booties are new additions to my closet, and for only $20 I just couldn't resist! I'm sure you'll be seeing them more often as they are quite the ideal San Francisco walking shoe- a little sassy, and a lot practical.

Anybody else get good scores during this sale season?!

quilted sleeves//quilted bag

{Zara coat (another quilted sleeved option), Zara kids tee (cute dog lover option!), Paige denim c/o, Zara suede booties (same red suede style), Forever 21 necklace, Bally purse}

Happy Monday- hope your weekend was swell! Speaking of swell isn't this coat just about killing it? I was pinning for it during the Zara sale-- after I found out it was sold out online. So naturally, I stalked the store until I found it in my size. This baby was in heavy rotation all weekend, and really is the perfect chic topper with it's exaggerated funnel neck, unexpected quilted peek-a-boo sleeves and contrasting color palette.

varsity blues

{Forever 21 varsity jacket, thrifted chambray button-down, J. Brand jeans, Chinese Laundry boots (chic version here), Lulu Frost x J. Crew winged necklace c/o}

This is my interpretation of "the sloppy tuck"- a look often imitated, rarely duplicated, and obviously something I still need to work on! Oh well, it's called fashion, and I like to have fun with it. Hence the varsity jacket. I got this baby as soon as it hit the trend circuit and the subdued color palette has made it a staple in my wardrobe- whether dressing up or down. I was initially going to wear a quilted sleeved coat but changed my mind last minute- I think this look is so much better anyways. I even got a thumbs up on my look from one of the guys in the office!

And yes, I know, one of the stones on my beautiful Lulu Frost x J. Crew necklace fell out (super bummed out)! Surprising since J. Crew is usually great quality- but I just had to wear it with the outfit- that ever happen to you?

layering at the flower shop

{thrifted dress (amazing paisley option here), Autumn Cashmere vest, Empyre blazer, Cynthia Vincent for 12th St belt (sale option), Forever21 necklace, Franco Sarto boots, Dior tights, H&M beret}

The art of layering is one only perfected after years of living and working in a chilly city. Now I'm not saying I've perfected it- because sometimes a fur vest just won't work under a blazer, no matter how hard you try to squeeze those arms in- but, I'd like to think I'm getting pretty good at it. It's all about thin layers- is what I heard on the Wendy Williams show the other day (How you doin'?!) I also think the belt helps cinch everything in too- while it may cut you in half, this accessory is great at accentuating your pretty curves.

How about that stunning flower shop in the back? Anyone else love strolling by the flower market on their lunch?

borrowed from the boys

{J.Crew blazer (this version on super sale!), Hollister button-up (chic look-a-like here), Zara denim, J.Crew Valentina heels, ASOS tie (girly version here), SEE sunglasses c/o, J. Crew corsage (on my lust list)}

I'm a sucker for menswear- there I said it- if ever I'm at an outfit loss menswear is an interesting and fun way for me to play with fashion, not to mention easy. The key is incorporating small feminine touches like a red pout, a matching corsage on your blazer lapel or even a bright yellow manicure! A severe Scott Disick-y hair part, bold mirrored sunglasses and a mismatched set of plaid and polka dots bring this look together and dare I say- one of my favorite 'borrowed from the boys' look to date.

So give it to me straight- love it or leave it?

leather accents

(a.n.a. top (chic similar version!), H&M pants (look-a-like style), Emypre blazer (every girl needs a good blazer!), ShoeMint Candy boots, J. Crew Biennial Bag, Banana Republic cluster earrings}

Hope you are all having a wonderful and productive start to the week! The weather is finally starting to ease up in San Francisco so I decided to take advantage of a semi-warm winter day and show off one of my favorite leather accent-ed tee's. It may be an of-the-moment trend, but I think leather accents will always occupy a space in my closet.

Since most of us are bloggers- let's dish!- what trends do you love? And which do you wish would go away?

in living color

{Zara denim moto jacket (another great light option here!), J. Crew striped top, Gap pants (cool camo ones here too), Zara loafers (affordable studded options here), Bally purse, Ann Taylor cuff (super pretty option), scarf present from mom via Jerusalem!- makeup: lipstick Girl About Town by MAC, nail polish Milani- Yellow Whiz}

Is is spring yet? I keep thinking about vivid colors! I've never really been a "black is my favorite color" kind-of-gal, and under that same taken don't have many simple monotone staples- since I tend to veer towards the bright, the patterned and the different. You think this would make it difficult getting dressed up in the morning, but I tend to like mixing prints, and seeing what I could actually get away with in my ensemble. I don't have a method to my madness, I just mix until things feel right. For example in this outfit there are a lot of shades of blue, the black accessories ground the look, while the camouflage pants add the of-the-moment factor, and the brights in my makeup choices spice up the color palette.

But enough about me, what are some of your favorite prints to mix?

how to style a blazer and jeans for work

{Zara blazer (another great one!), Silence & Noise blouse (a classic white blouse!), Paige Denim c/o, J. Crew Biennial Satchel, Forever 21 beanie, Zara heels (simple yet chic pair) and flower pin, Bauble Bar necklace, SEE sunglasses}

There's something so effortless about a blazer and jeans- it really is my go-to whenever I'm at a loss for what to wear to work. I obviously will play up the simplicity of this easy look with an overload of louder pieces. For example the beanie- it adds a little funk, the giant flower pin- it says I'm ready for Spring, and the highest pair of tolerable heels I own- making an entrance into any room is easy in a fabulous pair of heels. The moral of the story is wear your basics- like a railroad stripe blazer and your favorite dark denim jeans- and then add the fun extras to really make the outfit you.

how to refresh a cheetah print

{Zara coat (similar), ShopSeptember sweater c/o, Paige denim c/o, J. Crew necklace (another good one!), Biennial handbag and heels, SEE sunglasses (similar style)}

I wore this very sweater here, but decided to style it up for a different take on how I would wear it for a work day. The night and day outfits show just how easy it is to style something and make it entirely fresh. What is one of your very favorite pieces that you keep coming back to- and hit the refresh button on?!

P.S. For all those who entered the ShopSeptember giveaway- stay tuned the winner is coming up shortly. ;)

happy tuesday

Here's hoping the start of your Tuesday has already had moments of happiness, and joy-- and continue's for you all day. Sometimes we create our own destiny- and with a positive attitude anything can be achieved.

I'd like to interrupt the regularly scheduled outfit post to thank each and every one of you who take the time out of your day to read, view and/or comment on on this venture I started many years ago. I continue with the hopes of always pushing this blog to be better. So thank you for giving me an audience to do so. And Happy 2013!

Oh, and you still have a little time to enter my ShopSeptember giveaway! A choice between cheetah print and fur sleeves...hmmmm?

eugenia kim

{Eugenia Kim fedora (love this one!), Alloy peacoat (similar style), J. Crew denim, Steve Madden oxfords (super fierce pair)}

I've always been a hat lady as long as I can remember. I've donned newsies, beanies, paperboy caps- and now this fabulous fedora topper has finally made it's way into my closet, and my heart- I've been eying it from afar until it went on sale! The color is perfection, and I do plan on getting a lot of mileage out of it- even though the bf subtly hums the Indiana Jones theme song whenever I wear it.

bundled up

{H&M coat, J. Crew Blazer, Gap striped top and corduroy's (similar version), Chanel scarf (super fun version!), J. Crew Valentina pumps, Banana Republic hobo, SEE sunglasses}

Seems like all I talk about is how cold is seems in the morning before going to work! Well apart from fur snoods and fur sleeves, I also warm up in dainty scarves- preferably fabulous silk ones, that can be tied multiple ways. Oh, and lots of layers- blazer under a coat, anyone? Warmer weather can't come soon enough for me. How do you keep it appropriately chic but cozy?
